NEW: Insight for the Day 20:12:17: I Rest My Case

Discussion Points:

  1. Have you been involved in a heated argument?
  2. What was the outcome?
  3. How did you feel after the argument?

Case 20:12:2017

I heard the following advice given to a man involved in a quarrel: “when two people are quarrelling, you cannot tell which one of them is the madman”.

I often wonder why we get involved in arguments. Is it just to win and feel better, or is it just to prove a point? We need to ask ourselves what it is all about. Is it to glorify God or ourselves? In 2 Timothy 2 v 23 – 26, we are educated on the downfall of getting involved in quarrels:

Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must be gentle instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

When we argue, we fall into the trap of the enemy and – like the advice points out – “who is the madman who has allowed the devil to take him captive?”

We need to get involved in discussions to produce a “win-win” situation where both parties win. This can only be achieved by the love of Christ being deposited in the lives of all parties.

Points to Ponder:

  1. The Bible instructs us; ‘Anger’ rests in the bosom of fools.
  2. Anger and Arguments in no way produce the righteousness of Christ
  3. Silence is always ‘golden’ at the right time
